That seems to be the running joke in the group of friends and family. For the last two months when we have not been working we have been traveling. We aren’t done yet. Bonus for you guys though I have been picking up things along the way so I can do a giveaway of my favorite stuff in Europe.
Where have be traveled too? I will give a brief synopsis below.
Stop 1: Whittenberg Germany is a town also known as Lutherstadt. It was a bit of a ghost town and not any fun. Everything was closed. We joked we knew where the zombie apocalypse happened. Seriously all the shades drawn and maybe 20 people downtown. I was so excited to travel and show the boys about where their religion was started. We are Lutheran. Unfortunately everything is under construction. Well with the way Germans work on things it could be years before it is open again. Which sucks for their tourism. I know 3 families I stopped from wasting the time of going up. Seriously it is almost a five hour drive. Such a waste.
Stop 2: Whittenberg weekend was saved with a stop at Buchenwald concentration Camp in Wiemar. That was some powerful stuff right there. I will be sharing on here. I just need to go through all the photos and find the less horrific ones. I know most don’t agree with us taking our children. I wanted them to see the reality of this horrific piece of history. I wanted them to be able to ask the real questions and get real answers. They were amazing with what they asked and the respect they showed for this property. We had an amazing encounter with a set of cousins who were survivors. Amazing!
Stop 3: Brussels the most expensive city we have been. It also has been compared price wise to Paris. We shall not be going to Paris. We have only heard one good review of Paris. Back to Brussels beautiful city. A bit crazy. Everyone thinks Amsterdam is crazy they have nothing on the nonsense you see in Brussels. I had my first fish pedicure. I will be doing another. Manneken Pis was a favorite of the kids. Best chocolate and waffles.
Stop 4: Fort Breendonk a concentration camp set just outside of Antwerp. It by far the worst one we have been too. It is creepy. The smell is putrid. The stories that you listen to as you walk back and through the Fort. It was just an eerie experience. I can’t find the words to express what happened here and what the emotions you feel going through here.
Stop 5: Antwerp oh how you let me down. Your over priced waffles. Your rude waitresses and the smell. Oh the smell of dead fish. You are supposed to be a rich town but you reminded me of a poor section of New York City. Not worth the stop. Left feeling sad and we should have drove to Brugge instead. The only highlight was The Chocolate Line.
Stop 6: LEGOLAND and Dachau. Both amazing. The kids had a blast. They loved all LEGOLAND had to offer. We got a great deal through LEGOLAND.de If you are in Germany check them often. We also did the parking and meal plan with them. I will fill you in on that when I do the write up. Dachau left us all feeling a bit confused. I will divulge more on that later.
Stop 7: Amsterdam. Need I say more!
Be looking for these post over the next few weeks. Along with some on Prague and more. Along with the post on work stuff. I still love my job most days. Paul has some great things going on.
Until then enjoy your day!!!
