So I have been asked how we watch TV here in Germany. I wanting to save money wish I had been smarter when we we arrived here. I really wish I had shopped around and figured out the whole slingbox thing sooner. This is going to be two parts one how we watch TV and how to save money if you are PCSing over here.
When we arrived we got TKS Internet, phone and cable package. It starts at 70 Euro. Which is about $101.00. With that you get 20 cable stations, Internet that runs at 6000 kb (as slow as dial up) and free calls to the United States. What you don’t know is that you get charged to call landlines and cell phones. Our last bill was 106 euro due to them messing up and not fixing it. That was also my last straw. For those keeping track that is 156.00 for crap service. Truly.
After a little research. Thank you Stacey for showing us how sling box works! I found out From Evelyn and a few other that Vodafone was cheap and works great. We are paying 32 euro for phone and Internet and 7 dollars for TV. We are paying for the extra box my mother in law has for us now. You can still plug into the TV lines and get AFN for TV. We also have the old laptop hooked to the kids tv so they can watch hulu or slingbox. We have our tvs hooked up the other laptop for us to have hulu or slingbox. We are loving it!!!! With vodafone you can call of Europe and US for that price. What is there not to love?
For those wanting to watch hulu who aren’t on TKS you can call hulu and they will white list your ip address. It can take up to 7 days but well worth it to save some cash. We also have our cell phones through Vodafone. We can’t say anything bad about the service we have received. We have been more than happy. They are always so nice and friendly. You are always greeted with a smile and Hallo!
My favorite part my webpages open instantously now. You can’t ask for anything better than that. We have had a 2 second pause here or there in the TV but I don’t mind that. Since we were waiting minutes on end before.
