This year Veterans Day has taken on a new meaning for our family. It is the year my husband is deployed. Another first in our military career.
I am appalled our school has school today. I kept my children home. If they had not been sick we would have gone to the Veterans Hospital passing out the cards they made and thanked the service members. Instead we will wait until they are feeling better and go drop them off. It is also a day we call and chat with our loved ones who have served. We love hearing their stories. As for school I feel it is important that we honor our Service Members. We take time to honor Martin Luther King, Christopher Columbus, Thanksgiving ect. I think is time that we truly share with the students the meaning of our service members. We have been in a few different school systems and I remember growing up our Veterans are simply glossed over. There is no curriculum that is shared. It is all on the teachers take. So I believe with most things it is the parents responsibility to teach the children.
That is what I have done. I have taken my children to meet wounded warriors at Landsthul Hospital. I have taken them to the Veterans Hospitals. They have attended a few services with full military honors for loved ones who have passed. We talk about my Papa who has fought in Korea and Vietnam wars. We talk of world war 2 while living in Germany. They have talked with my friend Melissa and what a hero her husband is. Just like we teach them English, Math, Art ect. I have involved them with Military Veteran Project and volunteering. I love our Country and They love our Country.
I think since it is a federal holiday much like Christmas, Thanksgiving, Easter, Columbus Day that all schools and stores should be closed. That there is no need for anyone to be working today. Today is a day to Celebrate our Military. These men and women who sacrifice so much to make sure we stay safe. That do their jobs with Honor, Integrity, and Selflessness.
So today we will take the time to thank our Veterans for their sacrifice. We will thank the families of the fallen. After all they protect our freedoms. We will honor them today. We will continue to support them while they are gone. We thank each and every member of the military.
God Bless Our Soldiers. Below are a few who have touched our lives including my husband. Under the picture is the name and what they mean to us. Please take time to thank them for their dedication to this country.
