So I love when I call home and all I hear about is how expensive stuff is from Gas to Milk to Lunch Meat. So This ought to stop you a for a bit. This is only a small portion. I am not including cereals and detergents.
In Germany you CANNOT buy a gallon of Milk. If someone knows where let me know because at our Commissary I can’t find one. Let me tell you those half gallons of milk have apparently come from some freakin gold cows. Right now we pay 3.25 a half gallon. We use 6 a week.
You also can’t buy big containers of the American brand 1/2 and 1/2. No we have these small ones at 2.09 a pop.You can get bigger in German brands but I can’t read them. We use 5 to 6 a week since coffee is both of our life lines. Yes we could cut back but my husband has never truly seen the Mega bitch in me come out. I am pretty sure that would lead to a divorce and loss of readers here.
Though we did buy the 3 pound jar of Nutella for the boys on the economy at 4 euros. Since they eat it like candy on toast, fruit, crepes, waffles, sandwich with peanut butter. Not running low anytime soon. We were spending 9+ dollars a month on 3 little 12 0z jars.
Gas on the economy is 1.70 a liter if not more.Which is in Euro so that is approximately 2.81 us dollars. See where this is going? It’s really expensive. We generally get on post and it’s 4.30+ a gallon. That was last week. Not sure what the hike in price this week is. We can only use ration cards inside Germany. So if we got to a surrounding country you are paying there prices.
Really with the cost of living here and the jacked up prices I miss the states. While I am having fun sight seeing and experiencing the culture. I miss reasonable prices. Walmart, Piggly Wiggly, Publix, Target and Old Navy. Love my sister to death but I know at least me and 3 other people who live here miss stateside pricing.
