For many years I was one who didn’t think anything of organ donation. After my dad passed in 2008 I changed my mind after my mom received a letter for a man who walked again thanks to my dad. Paul’s mom passed away 14 months ago. We received a letter of updates from organ donation center. My mind is blown by the amount of people her donations have helped.
As of today she has helped improve the lives of over 45 people. How do you measure those gifts? The age range of the recipients is impressive.
-53 year old man received her right kidney and doing fantastic.
-62 year old received her heart and doing fantastic
-70 year old male received part of her liver and is doing well. His quality of life has improved dramatically.
-3 year old girl received the other o
These are the only updates we have on the organs but we have tons on the tissue donations. They are hoping to get us more info on the organ transplant recipients. For the tissues it is a range. I am not exactly sure who got what as they are not listed in our letter. Just the ages, sex and where they had the surgeries done at. The generic paragraph they gave was that bone, tendon, and ligaments were donated. She has provided hip replacements, ACL repairs and spinal fusions.

These are just some of the recipients they range from east coast all the way to Hawaii. I am such a firm believer now in this process and have added my “heart” to my drivers license and military id card. Reading the stories of the recipients touches my heart. Not only that a piece of our loved ones live on. Out of both of these tragic losses because honestly we weren’t expecting either something beautiful and meaning has come from them. These peoples lives have been dramatically improved. One man will be walking his granddaughter down the aisle and babies can live full lives now. Nothing better than that.
If you haven’t thought about organ donation please consider it. Let these stories of success talk to you. I know this is not for everyone but like I told Paul my choice came from what am I going to do with these parts when I am gone? Fertilize the ground? He knows that If I am hooked up to machines and that was going to be my life to please take me off the support. As that is not how I want to live the rest of my life. More so make sure that my death has meaning of helping people. I know a few of will question but you have illness. Yes I do but the do not effect my donations when the time comes for me pass. Which I hope is not for at least another 60+ years but it is all in Gods time. I just want others to be aware of the good that comes from donation.
I am working on a letter for the families about my mother in law and what her life was of course sans the drug use. I will let you know what comes of it. I can’t thank Life Choice Donation Services enough. They have made the last 14 months easier on my husband and us.
