I was given the oppertunity to review My Brother Charlie by Holly Robinson Peete and her daughter Ryan Elizabeth Peete. It deals with autism. This book really hit home for me. I wish I had it to share with some of the workers that we had come in and help us with our children. It gives great prespective on understanding children with autism. In the book Ryan and Rj are called Callie and Charlie.
Ryan started writing this book at age 12 with her mother. I have to say she is a very insightful young lady. She talks about how her twin brother RJ. What life is like with him and autism. I love how they explain the difference between the two kids. How they embrace each others differences. That is what love is truly all about. As I was reading all I could do was think of our family. They are talking about our family and what we deal with. The illustrations of this book are amazingly beautiful. They themselves speak volumes to you. My children enjoyed the story and the pictures. The girls that we occasionally watch have a better understanding autism thanks to Holly and Ryan.
Holly and Ryan are giving 5% of their royalties from the book back to the HollyRod4kids foundation. To help gain awareness for autism. April is is autism awareness month. This hardcover book retails for 16.99.
