So we went on a Marriage Retreat from Saturday to Tuesday. On the way down we were really excited. A free weekend away. I wasn’t sure what to expect other than what we had on paper from the Chaplin. The views on the way down and during our stay Breath taking!!!!! I loved every minute of it even if it was scary. Don’t lecture the Autobahn is over rated. Really it is. We arrive to the hotel and the bus is stuck in a Stau (traffic jam). We didn’t know so we waited about 45 minutes to check in. We were told to do so as a group. After a bit the kids were cranky. I was cranky. We needed naps. So we checked in. This is the part where I tell you EVERYTHING was free from our stay to childcare to food. There that is out of the way.
So we go off to dinner in the buffet. Typical American Buffet which was great. I needed a taste of home. We check the kids in to Just for Kids. They were a bit Leary on going since they didn’t know the people. They handled it well. Really had fun. Our only complaint of the weekend was that we thought there would be more babysitting since the papers said so. We were willing to pay theCDC but they were full. We added that in on the comment sheet. We did learn great material. Paul and I both really liked the lessons. It is geared more towards those who have been married a short time or going through changes.
Our favorite lecture was where you had to write down these “pebbles” meaning the little things that aggervate you about your spouse. For example putting the clothes next to the hamper instead of the hamper. He was saying that these pebbles can be come huge rocks and that is what leads to your explosions and issues. I so agree with this. 9 times out 10 when I bottle these little pebbles till this huge explosion. Where I could have just stated what the issue was before hand. Such a duh moment for half the class. The others well they will eventually get passed the honeymoon phase. Once discussed we had to write down the things that we love about our spouse. It was basically you take the good, the bad and ugly in a marriage. This was just a simple thing to help you remember why you love your spouse and improve those pebbles before they became boulders.
We could not have been at a more beautiful spot. I loved waking each morning and staring at the alps. I was able to journal and work on some projects. My soul was refreshed. The mountain air so crisp and fresh!Just what we needed. Though the couples massage would have been nice too. I had to cancel since daycare wasn’t all day. So when we go next time we will be going with some other couples that we know. We will switch off kids if need be. I loved downtown. The village is beautiful. I recommend if you get stationed here you go and spend some time down in Garmisch. So reminds me of the Sound of Music or the movie Heidi.
Heres some pictures
Here is the story of Edelweiss ( this was in the military brouchure at the hotel.) It doesn’t say who wrote it but it is the folklore of the area.
