Nothing melts my heart more than when these two want to know about where our family comes from. In high school we had to do a Family Lore Project. I loved this project. I was able to ask my Aunt Clara and Uncle Enrico about coming to America from Italy. My aunt surprised me and sent me her mothers recipe cards that have been around for generations They belonged to my great great great grandmother. I was able to have them translated and my kids enjoy good Italian recipes thanks to this family gift.
My Aunt also was able to tell me about my grandfather being a little boy and the trouble he would get into. They wondered why my dad was a handful. Children are your payback for all the trouble you gave your parents. I am convinced of this. They also fill your soul like no other. They also enjoy all the stories of my grandparents on my mom side being military. So when we got to talking the last few days about my growing up and them being babies. We had a ton of fun looking at old pictures and old experiences. regardless if they were happy or sad times. I love that they want to know.
So here is some of what we discussed. Some of my favorites.
Me as a baby and the things my parents did to me. Also in kindergarten the teddy bear parade and my grandma brought me home a special bear from work.
Some of my favorite High School memories waiting for the parade in front of our house each year. The time I met Ed Asner, Flip Wilson, Florence Henderson and Henry Winkler for a night of fun at the Bushnell. How I was the only one to get back stage that night and it was a photo of my mom and Henry that got me back there. Also that same year in high school you make your sister sit on some large animal for the hell of it at South of the Boarder
Our wedding day and how perfect that 50.00 wedding was. It was no hassles and the day couldnt have been better. How full my heart was that day
Then how we became a family and how Pop-Pop was always the first one to hold them as babies. He got them before I did. I never minded. How we make memories doing simple day trips. How much my grandparents love them. How I allowed them to tourture poor rabbits when we went to have live easter bunny photos down. Also the New England Mom meet up at our house. How we remain friends with them all to this day.
They just wanted to know.
