This time of year is so important to my family. To us it is about showing good cheer to all who are less fortunate than us. We love being together to spend this time making decorations. So I am going to share our traditions and invite you to do the same.
From being a little kid my step dad would set up the tree and do the lights with the garland. Then it was a free for all. We were aloud to decorate the tree as we would like. That was import to us kids but also our mom. That tree was our holiday masterpiece. I allow that of my children. As we decorated then and now we would have the holiday music blasting. Complete with off key singing and hot coco for all.
Here is our tree this year. It is Nathans first real tree. I love how the house smells like pine! I have our other tree in my office and will be getting that done tomorrow.
Another favorite tradition comes from when my moms family lived in Germany. They were stationed there for quite a bit. If you leave your shoe by the door December
5th Santa will leave you a present or coal. I will never forget the year my grandparents left coal in my uncle mikes shoe to be funny. I was about 7 or 8 and was horrified. Who knew Santa could be so cruel. Honestly after the year my kids have given me I have truly contemplated it. Though I am not that mean. I do threaten. this year they each have their own little trees to decorate. We saw walmart had mini train sets. So that is what will be put in their shoe.
We also always have our cards out in the mail by December 1st. I am scrambling around tonight.
We also like to particpate in the community events. Here is whats on the cooker for this year:
Light Displays: we have done two. James Island and Lights before Christmas at the zoo. Both are wonderful and worth our time.
Tree Lighting we will be doing this dec 13 when they have the summerville parade. We will be doing that also.
So what are your Traditions share them here with us
