Today is my Grandma’s birthday. She is one of my most favorite people in the world. I know I can call day or night and she will listen. She has always been a support from helping my mom raise us. To helping me raise my boys. She is the one I turn to when the military has pissed me off yet again. She reminds me the importance of what my husbands job is.
Looking back over the years I am pretty sure she had me every Friday night. We would go to the coop together. The time I won the lotto. While not a lot it still got her. My grandmother has always be to any major event. She also insisted on flowers at my wedding. Even when I didn’t want them. My grandparents would take me on vacation with them to New Jersey to visit her sister Mary. Our Friday nights consisted of Golden Girls, Sanford and Son. The coveted pin wheel. The chocolate cookie with marshmellow inside. A bit of heaven. She would always know when one was missing.
My grandmother has taught me compassion, forgiveness and to cherish those you love the most. She always takes the time to listen. She has the best advice. There are times when I wish closer so she can see my kids grow. So they can have those same memories that I hold dear with her and my mom. I know they are just a phone call away and Skype session away.
My grandmother is so very special. Happy Birthday Gram. Love you tons.
