This weekend we shared with Paul and The Tinkey family the joys of the Peterson Farm Bros. You know them from their viral farming videos such as I’m Farming and I Know It, Farmers Style and their newest video Takin Care of Livestock. They are a wealth of knowledge. When you go out to the farm you go to their grandparents house both whom have passed. Last year we had the joy of meeting their Grandma and she was so sweet. Their Aunt Cheryl remembered who we were (the boys and I). She was sweet as ever.
I love that you can ask them all the questions you have and they never grow tired of answering them. They also have great informational videos on their youtube channel. All the boys have and are attending K State. Nathan said he was pretty sure that Laura would too. This time it was a small group of people who did the tour. Nathan was all excited to do the tractor ride with Kendall. Blake did it as well. They talked video games. River wanted no part but she was happy to pet the 24 hour old calf. Who we learned weighed about 60 pounds at birth. Thank you I will pass.
The boys had a great time learning about wheat. Paul had fun talking with the boys and their Uncle Bruce. They are hospitable. They make learning fun. They take you around talk about all the farm equipment. What the cows eat. How they do 3 year rotation of crops. it was really interesting. At the end of the tour they perform their songs and how they come up with the lyrics. Along with their parody videos they also share information pertaining to farming. My boys have really enjoyed it. It has given us a lot to think about in our future plans. It was just fun had by all!
If you live in Kansas and the surrounding area you should take a tour. You will learn so much useful knowledge. We talked to Bruce about irrigation and what is the best set up. We also learned that the wheat here this year is having a hard time drying out due to how wet it has been in Kansas. The rain just keeps going. They are hoping to crop this week should it dry enough to do so. They also talked about alfalfa hay how all the animals enjoy it but it is also really good for them. We feed this to our horse.
