We attended the Efmp rodeo again this year. For those who don’t know what EFMP is, It means Exceptional Family Member Program. So when the Army places a family it makes sure they can handle your medical needs. At Fort Riley they offer a few programs a year that are a total blast. For us one is the Rodeo. This was Paul’s first year. As he was deployed last year.
There is one Rodeo Queen who has been amazing. Danielle rides Lucy. Though this year it was Major. Both are beautiful horses. Danielle and Lucy started Nathan’s love of horses. He is has been taking lessons. He now owns his own horse. They are about to really work hard so he can compete again. Katarah and Nate should be good to go with the help of Hannah at the new barn but that is story for another day. Back to Danielle and Lucy last year Nathan went around a few times. We have a photo on our living room wall of Nathan loving on Lucy. Each time I see the picture I smile. Before coming to Fort Riley and doing the rodeo Nathan liked nothing. He was a home body. That changed last year.
It was nice to be able to share with Danielle the impact she had on my kiddo. We also saw Rustin who taught Nate how to rope last year. We shared with him our experience at Cowboy Up for Downs. How Nathan was able to try and rope calves and what not. It was fun to catch up with everyone at the Kraft Rodeo.
This year’s entertainment was done by Whistle Nut and Ole. Ole is a bull who does not buck. They put a bucking strap on him and he decided bucking was not for him. He didn’t do it. Which made us all giggle. So now he is ridden around like a horse. He is too cute. My kids rode him and then made me ride him. Unreal! Glad that I did to see them giggle.
I know Ole looks fierce but he is a big old teddy bear. He is super sweet and makes some of the funniest grunt sounds we have heard. He entertained all the special needs kids that day. At the night rodeo he was let’s ride!!
It was a great way to spend our day.
