Amanda from Confessions From Householdsix had this brilliant idea to see how much it cost to make a pot of sauce in different countries. So Amanda is going to be repersenting the US cost on Pennsylviania and Cheryl will be doing Canada cost.
Since I use my grandmother’s recipe I will be giving you the gist of ingreidents. My recipts will be added friday when they return. I also bought from the Commissary and then the German Economy. So you will see two different Price sets.
I use 7 spices all of which needed to be replaced since our move. They run 1.00 a piece. I had a buy1 get 1 coupon. lucky me I had 3. It is the beauty of great people who ship me coupons. So it cost me 4.00
FreashProduce ingredients I use tomatos, garlic, pepper and onion all added together cost me 6.50 read commissary prices here crazy!
Canned ingreidents tomato paste, and tomato sauce base (since I don’t can) cost 3.50
For burger and sausage which we do on the side since my kids don’t like meat sauce cost 5.50
The box of Pasta Barilla of course 2.50 after 1.00 off coupon
Freash Grated Parm cheese 2.50
For a grand total of 24.50 Not bad since I will get three freezer bag fulls when all made and simmered
Now the German Economy. It is all in Euros. So I will do the conversion on the grand total portion only. I also had to shop three different shops. Since the germans like everything freash.
Spices 2 for 1 euro at the 1 euroshop also tomato paste and tomatos sauce were 3 euros
Meats at butcher in Mainz Everything is weiged in Metric I had them do it in 1 pound increments. Hamburger and Sausage 8 euros
Freash Ingredients Tomatos, Onion , pepper garlic 5 euros Love farmers markets
Small container for freash greated Parm cheese 1 euro 50
For a grand total in Euros of 21.50 which in American Money means it was 29.65.
Now with the prices in mind I preffered the German Economy products since it was all freash and not shipped into the commissary.
