Thursday I had the pleasure of interviewing Chynna Phillips. She is an absolute joy and would love to have do a guest post here. For those of you who are not familiar with who Chynna is I will fill you in. She is currently participating on Dancing with the stars. She is partnered with Tony. Is one of my favorite contestants this year. We are voting for her from Germany!
So Chynna is part of the fabulous Wilson Phillips band. I grew up listening to them and they also earned me an A on a English quiz in high school. We were studying Romeo and Juliet. Had to find something modern talking about the duo. What do you know they have a song.
She is the daughter of John and Michelle Phillips (band members of The Mamas & The Papas). She has been in Films as well. She was in Some Kind of Wonderful and Roxanne The Prize Pulitzer. She is married to William Baldwin and they have 3 children together. So On to our Conversation.
Talking with Chynna is like talking to an old friend. I loved how approachable she appears. You can feel the love that she has for family seeping out of her. When she got to talking about Billy and the kids the sound of her voice changed.
Q: How are you juggling life with children and working?
Answer: It is a juggling act but Billy has slipped into Mr. Mom. She is staying in LA and goes home on Wednesday or Thursday. Billy brings the kids down for the weekend. They are all more than supportive and so very proud of the work she is doing. Chynna also answered saying some days she feels like a bachelor. Her children 2 daughters 6 and 11 and a son who is 9.
Q: What made you decide to participate in Dancing with the Stars?
Answer: It was Billy’s idea. He asked her if she would do it. She asked if him if this was her bag. He replied “Yes with your name monogrammed all over it. ” She never thought it would come together but it did. When she found out panic set it. She did say that she is getting the body by death and that this show has saved her butt. Chynna giggled through this whole statement.
Q: What dance did you least look forward to?
Answer: The JIVE! It is fast moving and if you miss a step. The whole dance could be thrown off. It is really intimidating.
Personally We think you nailed it!!!
Q: What do you think has been the biggest challenge and most rewarding part of being a mom?
Answer: The challenge has been creating the intimacy and do they feel connected? She feels this that her own perception is skewed due to growing up with divorced parents. She reaffirms it to herself daily that they do and has had other parents comment on the love she has for her children. Chynna says the reward is watching how how happy and compassionate her kids are. Her 9 year old was a birthday party and there was a 2 year old that he played basketball with . He would lift her so she could shoot the basket. (you could so hear Chynna beaming with pride through the phone) She said it was just to cute.
Q: How do you find balance between work and home life?
Answer: Right now the scales are tipped and Billy has slipped into the full time parent role perfectly. She has the luxury of having a spiritual mom Jackie (who she met 25 years ago) who live in the guest house to help him as well. She filling in ways her own mother can’t. The kids call her Granny Jacks. They have taken over the picking and dropping off of the kids. Billy coaches the kids teams. So for the next 12 weeks they will be filling in for Chynna. Chynna says she is feels so blessed and thankful for their continued support. She says its her time to make the bacon. They have found away to make it all work fantastically for the kids.
Q: How do you feel about your children going into the entertainment business?
Answer: She doesn’t want to turn them way from their dreams. So she finds ways to help them embrace their passions. She has one who is gravitating towards art and she finds ways to help her embrace that passion. The son is passionate about basketball. He wants to play in the NBA. She always tells them “make your vocation or your vacation.” She fully believes that your work should be something that you love. (This has so struck a chord with me.)She also feels free to step in and give them reality checks when they need them. She wants them to feel empowered and dream big. Her son just told her the other day ” Don’t worry mom I am not getting married until I retire from the NBA!)so cute!
Q: What was it like to work on Bridesmaids?
Answer: She loved it. They needed a shot at a comeback and this allowed for it. They were so excited to sing Hold On in the movie. They were in the wedding scene and she said it was phenomenal. She loved working with Kristen Wiig and Maya Rudolph.
This concluded our interview time. I want to thank Chynna for taking time out of her day to sit and chat with Caiafa Craziness. We did the interviews in conference call setting.
Most important VOTE FOR CHYNNA!!!
