Brussels was a fun town. I got to meet up with Tara and Elizabeth. Just one of the highlights of the trip. When we entered the city we realized it was a bit busy and the boat (ie Wanda the Honda) was a bit bigger than the roads. Its alright though when the Belgians see the pilot coming down the road they part like the red sea!
The architecture and graffiti is beautiful. We enjoyed waffles on most corners and lets not forget the chocolate. The Belgians for the most part are laid back and easy going. The weather reminded me of Germany and is schizophrenic tendencies. You never know how to dress. So we layered up.
First stop of the day was the Novotel Brussels Centre Tour Noire to check in. Not at all like they described online. It should not be listed as a four star hotel. Maybe 2 stars. When making the reservation I asked for a room on the first or second floor. We got floor five. The wifi was spotty. They say they have a beautiful pool and hot tub. Well the pool is like a lazy river and for toddlers it may have been chest high. The breakfast was 28 euro per person. Lets just say we chose not to eat there. I can say the concierge was more then helpful. We asked for restaurant recommendations and directions. They were pretty good. The first recommendation for dinner was not a hit for kids so we chose to go else where. We had dinner at Chi Chi’s the first night and Hard rock for the second.
Brussels is known for the Manneken Pis. It is a 60cm Bronze statue and was created in 1619. The Sculptures name is Hieronimus Duquesnoy the Elder.
Did you know that the Smurfs come from Belgium? True story. We accidentally came across a giant statue by the main train station. Which also houses the Starbucks!
Here is some more of the city. Including the way we laugh as people take pictures with the ipad. I have yet to understand this concept. Since we have an ipad2 and it does a horrible job with the photos. We had a great visit in the city of Belgium.
